On the 19th of August 2023, the UWC Moot Court Society in collaboration with the Law Student Council hosted the UWC Inter-Varsity First Year Moot Court Competition.
Tania Twangu and Alungile Khophe
The purpose of the competition was to get first year law students to engage on prevalent issues while fostering an environment where they can hone their legal skills of drafting, research, and oral presentation. This year the hypothetical problem was based on the Law of Succession and Customary Law.
The universities that were represented in the competition were: Varsity College, the University of Cape Town (UCT), and the University of the Western cape (UWC). The participants showed great mastery of the law, and tenacity in answering the questions posed by the judges. Team UWC represented by Zahaa Safodien and Babalwa Nonyongo clenched the prize for Best Heads of Argument. Tania Twangu from UWC was awarded Best Oralist and the overall winners of the competition were UWC represented by Tania Twangu and Alungile Khophe.
The competition was proudly sponsored by Werksmans Attorneys and the Office for Student Development and Support.
