UWC mourns passing of Council member
The UWC community is still reeling of shock relating to the sudden death of Randall Titus, an alumnus and Council member, who passed away while at campus on 10 March 2014. Titus had a pre-existing heart condition and suffered a severe heart attack at the University’s Administration Building.
A well-known alumnus of the University who completed his B.Com (Honours) in 2002, Titus was a familiar voice on Bush Radio as the producer and presenter of the radio station's sports programme, "Sports in Bush", for many years. He was interested in and did a lot of work focussing on the history of community sport in the Western Cape.
Titus formerly taught business studies and accounting at Rylands High School, and had a passion for the development of sport as an instrument towards coherent social development.
Since 2009, Titus was a member of the University Council, as a Convocation representative, he also served on various committees, including the Honorary Degrees Committee, Joint Appointments Committee of Senate and Council, as well as the Student Development and Support Services Committee.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family in this time of bereavement,” said Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Brian O’Connell.
