UWC’s netballers will make their fifth appearance in the Varsity Netball competition which gets underway on Saturday, 17 September.
Coach Danlee Mathews’ squad will again be one of eight teams competing, with the others being defending champions Kovsies (UFS), Madibaz, Maties, NWU, TUT, UJ and UP-Tuks.
The 2022 tournament sees a return to relative normality, following the 2020 COVID-19-enforced cancellation and 2021 ‘bio-bubble’ edition. This year’s round-robin stage will take place over three consecutive ‘bumper’ weekends.
The first bumper weekend (17-19 September) takes place at the University of Pretoria’s Rembrandt Hall. The second weekend (25-26 September) sees the squads traveling to North-West University in Potchefstroom before University of the Free State plays host at their Callie Human Hall for the last two rounds (2-3 October). The semifinals will take place on 10 October and the final a week later, on 17 October, with the venues to be determined by who qualifies and venue suitability.
All 31 matches of the 2022 Varsity Netball competition will be broadcast live on SuperSport, including the final on Monday, 17 October, at 19h00.
