Dr Naushaad Ebrahim, Discipline Head at the School of Pharmacy, is responsible for one of the key highlights of the collaboration with Tygerberg Hospital: a 360-degree virtual tour of its Sterile Compounding Facility. He used software resources and training from the UWC Innovation Hub to create the tour, which offers students an immersive understanding of sterile manufacturing processes.
The collaboration underscores the School of Pharmacy's commitment to leveraging innovation, cutting-edge software, and expert mentorship to prepare students for the demands of modern pharmacy practice. The tour allows students to explore critical areas of the sterile environment without requiring direct entry into restricted zones, ensuring safety while providing comprehensive learning.Dr Ebrahim says: “It offered an opportunity for hands-on training with experts: Tygerberg Hospital's lead sterile compounding pharmacist conducted live demonstrations and mentored students on essential sterile compounding skills at UWC's School of Pharmacy. This hands-on training enabled students to gain practical experience and insights from industry experts, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.”The innovation means enhanced preparation for future practice through both virtual and live training.
