UWC-SRC Clothing initiative
The Student Representative Council at the University of the Western Cape is appealing to the broader campus community to contribute in clothing needy individuals at the Elim- Night Shelter this winter.
Sinoyolo Ndandani , The SRC- Community and outreach officer said with the approaching winter season it’s fitting and appropriate to donate clothes donated by the UWC community to Elim- Night shelter situated at 47 Avenue , Elsies River Industrial, Cape Town.
Miss Ndandani is appealing and pleading with students and staff to support this worthy cause by donating clothes they no longer need or use. The drop off site is the SRC office in the Student centre.
The donations are to be made before the 25th May 2016 which is the proposed date of the shelter visit also known as Africa Day.
All students who are interested in coming along as we go and make a difference in the lives of individuals living at the Elim- night shelter to please contact the SRC Community and Outreach Officer at 3465542@myuwc.ac.za/ scrcommunity@uwc.ac.za “The vision of my office is a community in which every member attains the right to survival, development and participation in a platform of bringing community awareness. “
“We aim to build relations and help our community by giving back with this initiative.
I find it a perfect day for us as students to practise the student activism principle that says “we are members of the community before we are students” This saying challenges as students to never forget where we come from and to never stop fighting for the betterment of the communities that surround us. Elim-Night shelter not only shelters the homeless but takes them through a process of assessment and rehabilitation followed by projects focusing on uplifting and empowerment and this is what makes them stand out from the rest.
