If you’re looking for talent, look no further than the campus at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). That’s exactly what Good Hope FM has done.

They recently embarked on a talent search for their next radio star and scouted campuses across the Mother City, ultimately selecting Mihle Ngxishe as their winner.

Mihle is already a familiar voice to UWC students as she presents a popular show on the campus online radio station UDUBS Radio.

The 20-year-old is currently completing the four-year LLB course and is in her third year of the programme.

Born and raised in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, Mihle said while she was completing her law degree, a career in media had never been far off.

“I always share the story of how, when I was a little girl, maybe five years old, my grandmother bought me a little radio for Christmas instead of a Barbie doll. I was so excited because I loved reality television and would pretend to present shows like Yo! TV, and felt like I could do this,” she said.

When she was a bit older, her church even led her to get behind the mic.

“My church would have radio lots going on Sundays during Youth Month and when I was in high school, I'd be invited to be part of the shows and be interviewed. I enjoyed being behind the mic.”

Good Hope FM’s Programme Manager, Gerard Muller, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the popularity of this year’s Presenter Search and even more so by the sheer amount of phenomenal broadcasting talent that the Mother City and surrounding areas possess.”

He added that he looked forward to working with Mihle: “A huge congratulations to our winner, Mihle. We look forward to working with you, to see your career take flight and, if previous winners are anything to go by, playing our part in shaping you into a broadcasting force to be reckoned with.”

Mihle said she will soon begin training at Good Hope FM and had been assured that her radio obligations wouldn’t for now clash with her studies at UWC.
