Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has announced a 36-member preliminary squad for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, and UWC have eight players in the squad.

UWC's octad - captain Bongeka Gamede, Regirl Ngobeni, Fikile Magama, Lonathemba Mhlongo, Kholosa Biyana, Amogelang Motau, Sibulele Holweni and Ntombifikile Ndlovu - have been rewarded for their excellent form in the Hollywoodbets Super League ahead of the footballing showpiece, which will be staged in Australia and New Zealand (20 July - 20 August).

The defending Women's Africa Cup of Nations champions will assemble in Johannesburg on 12 June for the final training camp ahead of the World Cup, where each player will have an opportunity to impress coach Ellis and the other selectors for a spot in the final squad.
