This monograph describes in detail the harmonized system of spelling, punctuation and word-division which is used in written Shona. The harmonization of the Shona language varieties is part of the major initiative of CASAS, towards the harmonization and standardization of African languages across the continent. The work, which has materialized in the form of this publication, marks an important milestone in the development of the Shona language and indeed African languages for the mass education and development of Africans. Its coverage of three sovereign countries of Botswana, Mozambique and Zimbabwe means that CASAS is successfully and steadily completing the continental scope of the project. The harmonized Shona orthography presented in this monograph does not present major divergencies from the current practice of writing Shona in the three mentioned countries.
