Alongside the classical formation of Ewe compound nouns by combination of stems (Noun + Noun, Noun + Adjective), compound nouns are also formed in Ewe out of sentences of which the transformation of some component elements does not make it any more possible or easy to recognise them as sentences. From the analysis of the nouns of Ewe months, I have got to identify a certain number of this type of compound nouns which appear to be in a clear process of lexicalisation. As a matter of fact, their etymologies, unless they have been systematically studied, are now lost in the mist of time and far from obvious for the average user of the language. The current paper has thus enabled me to highlight another productive process of lexical modernisation in Ewe and to question the validity of the theory of serial verbs in that language.
