This monograph is about community run projects’ spirit in a democratic setting. It discusses how the people of Chikunkhu village managed to construct a road, a community hall, a library, a primary school and an adult literacy classroom. This was done within the context of growing resistance amongst some communities in the country towards taking part in community run projects saying such projects were oppressive. As far as such communities were concerned democracy meant that government was the sole provider of development whilst the communities were the recipients. This monograph dispels such kind of thinking by giving an example of how community run projects can be done successfully in a democratic setting. It highlights the process through which the people of Chikunkhu followed for them to accomplish all the projects. At the end the monograph draws some lessons from the initiatives done by the people of Chikunkhu village arguing that community run projects re-enforce human rights enshrined in the Republican Constitution.
