As the University of the Western Cape’s current Institutional Operating Plan (2021-2025) draws to a close, Goal 3, which focuses on research and innovation, does so on a high note. Halaal Food Access In Cape Town: Study Finds Branding Key To Muslim Consumer Confidence

While Cape Town boasts a rich culinary landscape shaped by globalisation, Muslims in the city still face challenges in accessing food that aligns with their faith. A recent master’s thesis by University of the Western Cape researcher Ammaarah Seboa sheds light on how halaal food is branded, positioned and perceived in the Mother City – and why semiotics, from certificates to logos, are central to Muslim food choices.
 
 
 
The Art Of Dentistry Studies Success

Her passion for painting and drawing put her on the path to becoming a celebrated artist, but she was inspired to study dentistry at the University of the Western Cape instead and thrived. So much so that Shazeea Rawoot has been recognised by the South African Dental Association for academic excellence.
