South Africa’s Constitutional Court – the country’s highest court – handed down a landmark judgment for climate change and environmental justice in mid-August 2026. The companies had planned to use seismic surveys in the waters off the country’s Wild Coast. These surveys use powerful sound waves to map underground rock formations.

UWC Study Uncovers Barriers Delaying Early Access To Child Support Grant

For many mothers in Langa, delaying a Child Support Grant (CSG) application is not a choice. A University of the Western Cape (UWC) study found that most mothers and caregivers interviewed waited beyond their babies’ first three months to apply due to barriers ranging from childcare and cultural practices, to concerns about their babies’ well-being and difficulties obtaining essential documents.
 
 
 
 
Dentistry Meets Economics: A Groundbreaking Collaboration At UWC

A new study at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), is due to be published within the next few weeks in the accredited International Journal of Advanced Business Studies. The study has shed light on the business realities of private dental practice in South Africa. The project, Investigating the Dental Economics Landscape of South Africa’s Private Sector Dental Industry, focused on the Western Cape and surveyed 30 private dental practitioners to understand the entrepreneurial side of dentistry.
