Summary:

The African philosophy of Ubuntu provides a moral and philosophical framework for South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Ubuntu emphasises interconnectedness, empathy, and the inherent dignity of all peoples. This article argues that culturally informed values can play a vital role in addressing complex legal definitions at the ICJ and international law generally. It shows how these values transcend traditional legal norms, offering an alternative perspective on the ideal pursuit of justice on a global scale. It is significant for international human rights advocacy because it shows how culturally informed values promote justice, reconciliation, and human welfare in international affairs.
