About the Preliminary Results Initiative

What is new

From 03 June 2026, immediately after the final assessment period closes, academic departments will have the option to release preliminary results to students on a per-module basis for first chance assessments only. Where a department takes up this option, you will receive an email from the Marks Administration System (MAS) for each registered module, showing:

• Your Continuous Assessment Mark (CAM)
• Your Examination Mark
• Your Final Mark

Please note

Preliminary results are exactly that, provisional. They may still change following moderation, external examiner review, and the Assessment Committee processes that precede formal ratification. The results released on 14 August 2026 remain the only official record of your performance.

Why we are doing this

Students told us that earlier access to their results would be helpful, and earlier insight into academic performance offers several practical benefits:

• More time to prepare for supplementary assessments where applicable
• Earlier clarity for academic appeals, registration decisions, and second-semester planning
• Additional lead time for funding applications, accommodation arrangements, and graduation-related processes
• Earlier conversations with lecturers and timely academic interventions where they are needed
• Greater transparency throughout the assessment and moderation cycle, while protecting fairness and academic integrity through the formal ratification process

In short, this initiative gives you earlier insight into your academic performance so you can make informed academic and personal decisions, without compromising the rigour of our examination processes. We believe a university that listens is a university that serves its students well.

Should you have fees outstanding (i.e. have not settled all your fees) you will not receive an academic transcript or your full results, but will only receive your promotion outcome via the UWC Student Portal. In the event that you have fees outstanding you may request your academic transcript to be emailed on your behalf, to other institutions, employers or bursars by emailing helpdesk@uwc.ac.za and including the institution’s name, a contact email (to which it must be sent) and a reference/application number (if applicable).

Students with a zero student account balance can also access their transcripts via their student portal. The document may take up to 48 hours to be emailed to you — please do not request it more than once within 48 hours.
