Undergraduate Programmes

At the undergraduate level, the department offers two different streams for the Statistical Programmes
  • A mainstream BSc degree in Mathematical and Statistical Sciences offered over three years; ·
  • An extended BSc degree in Mathematical and Statistical Sciences offered over four years.
The extended programme gives students the opportunity to participate in foundation courses during the first year, and learn at a slower pace.

Postgraduate Programmes

There are currently three subprograms within the department, namely
  • Pure Statistics
  • Data Science
  • Population Studies

The department also offers some of the courses in the BSc Honours, in Computational Finance programme.
An Honours degree, in the Statistics and Population Studies department, is completed by coursework.

The department currently offers three honours degrees:

BSc Honours in Statistics OR BSc Honours Statistics (with Specialisation in Data Science), click here
BSc Honours in Population Studies, click here.

Master’s degree study involves either research only (full thesis), or a combination of research and coursework (structured Master’s degree).

For a PhD degree, a student will register for a full-thesis, but could be expected to complete modules if background knowledge is lacking.
