Learning Materials were structured via the Lessons eTool in iKamva. 10h05 | Setting up an online environment for Postgraduate Dentistry Modules | Dr Faheema Kimmie (Department of Community Oral Health) | Staff member Dr Faheema Kimmie has created the Postgraduate module RMT 811 for Postgraduate students. Learning content and related assessments were created via the Course Resources and Assignments eTool. Students were able to submit their research proposals via Turnitin linked to the Assignments via iKamva and could reflect on their Similarity Index Reports. |

10h45 | The Flipped Classroom: Transformation of the preclinical platform for second year dental students within restorative dentistry at the faculty of dentistry, University of the Western Cape | Dr Jonathan Ziegler and Dr Sonia Bredenkamp (Department of Conservative Dentistry) | Lecturers Dr Jonathan Ziegler and Dr Sonia Bredenkamp have created an online learning environment for their CON 200 second-year registered students. This module comprises both practical and theoretical techniques that students will need to successfully complete the module. |

11h05 | The "Flipped Classroom Post Pandemic - New Perspectives" | Ian Schroeder (Department of Physics and Astronomy) | Lecturer Ian Schroeder (Extended Curriculum Program) contacted the CIECT Team (Digital Academic Literacy) – to customise ‘Excel Covid catch-up training workshops’ in April 2022. Ian and the CIECT team partnered to develop a training programme for 1st year students. The collaboration (lecturer and CIECT team) worked well |
11h15 | Pharmacy Lecturer: Creation of 3D Lessons – ‘Removing Barriers to Learning | Naushaad Ebrahim (School of Pharmacy) | Science Lecturer Naushaad Ebrahim from the School of Pharmacy started his journey with the use of the EON-XR platform in 2021. He engaged in regular training sessions conducted on a monthly basis by EON-XR in collaboration with CIECT and received his EON-XR Educator Certification. He has designed various 360 and 3D lessons for his Pharmacy students and will share his collaboration with an external Pharmaceutical company to create more 3D assets for teaching. |
11h25 | Welcoming and introducing blended learning at first year level. | Nico Venter | Business management is a generic module that is spread across all the different BCom degrees as well as the BAdmin degree that the EMS has to offer. The MAN 131/132 learning team normally consists of 6 lecturers and caters to plus minus 650 first year students. For MAN 131/132 the main goal is to get students comfortable with the online learning platform and not feel lost in the digital realm. |
11h35 | Proctored Examinations for Accounting students: Pilot Project | Bonita Raymond (Department of Accounting) and Ahmed Bux | Lecturer Bonita Raymond from the Accounting Department collaborated with the CIECT team to plan and deliver a series of proctored examinations to support the ‘Catch-up Assessments’ for their Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting/ PGDA class (Jan 2021). The pilot with the 3rd year BCOM Accounting (May – Dec 2022) is underway, including proctored high stakes examinations. The Accounting lecturers and students have engaged in training and successful onboarding. |
11h45 | Digital Academic Literacy (DAL) Programme | Fundile Nkunge and Aqeel Dalvie | The CIECT Team has designed and developed the Digital Academic Literacy (DAL) Programme. This basic computer literacy programme is offered to 1st-year students (novice users). The programme includes the training on the institutional Learning Management System (iKamva) which is also used as one of the modes of delivery. The CIECT Team collaborates with Faculty to identify student needs. The programme is integrated into accredited modules across various faculties including EMS, Education, CHS, Dentistry, Law, Science and Arts. The DAL Programme is offered over a Semester to participating Faculties. In addition, some Departments engage with CIECT to design customised lessons. |
