The Community Engagement Unit at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) hosted a graduation ceremony for participants of the Community Leadership programme in partnership with the University of Missouri (UM).
The event took place at the Pigalle restaurant in Green Point on the 30 May 2016, the graduation ceremony of the Leadership Programme candidate’s formed part of the 30th Anniversary celebratory conference of the UWC and UM partnership which took place from 25-27 May 2016.
The day was an official close to the one week celebration of the institutional partnership between UM and UWC
The partnership established in 1986 has seen 600 successful exchange programmes and many of which have become extended collaborations. Speaking on the day, Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tyrone Pretorius said: “This is a great closing to the celebratory partnership between UM and UWC.
“Firstly, let me say thank you to your spouses and family members for supporting you in your adult learning journey, if there is one thing I would like you to remember is that leadership rests within each and every one of us”.
Professor Pretorius said sometimes even with good intentions one can do more harm than good, he thanked the graduates for taking part in the Community Leadership Programme and the colleagues from UM.
Director of the Community Engagement Unit at UWC, Professor Priscilla Daniels said the event wouldn’t be possible without the support and assistance of staff at the University of the Western Cape.
