Residential Services provided safe, supportive, and inclusive accommodation for registered UWC students. Living in residence gives students convenient access to academic facilities while encouraging personal growth, community engagement, and student success.

Accommodation is limited. Admission is allocated according to the University's Residence Policy and the availability of space — meeting the eligibility requirements below does not guarantee a residence placement.

Apply for Residence

You may indicate your residence preference when completing your UWC application. If you did not select residence at the time of your UWC application, you can still apply via the Residence Portal. Full-time registered students — including first-year, postgraduate and international students — may apply, subject to the Residence Policy and available space.

Accommodation Types

Three accommodation types are available, allocated according to student category and availability.

Undergraduate Residences

Shared furnished accommodation with access to Wi-Fi, study areas, laundry facilities, kitchens, Residence Life programmes and security services.

Postgraduate Accommodation

Postgraduate students are primarily allocated to single rooms and/or dedicated postgraduate residences.

Accessible Accommodation

Accessible rooms are available for students with disabilities. Students requiring accessible accommodation should indicate this during the application process.

Common questions about applications, placement and appeals.

Applications
Are applications open?

First-time and prospective students: Applications open in April of the preceding year and close on 31 October of the preceding year.

Returning and postgraduate students: Applications open on 1 August and close on 31 October of the preceding year.

How do I apply?

You can apply via the Residence Portal.

Does Residential Services accept late applications?

No. Late applications will not be considered.

Why was my application unsuccessful?

Applications may be unsuccessful due to:

Not meeting qualifying criteria (e.g., academic performance, employment status, study type).
Limited space availability.
Maximum years in residence exceeded. Students are allowed one extra year beyond the standard duration of their undergraduate course. Example: LLB students (5-year course) may apply for 6 years in total.

Note: Returning students from the previous year may have an advantage if they qualify.

Placement & Room Changes
Can I swap my room with another student?

Yes. Both students must submit a Room Swap request via the Residence Portal. Feedback will be sent via email.

Can I change my room?

Room Changes are subject to availability and Residence Services policy. Requests can be made via the Residence Portal, but approval is not guaranteed. Feedback will be sent via email.

Appeals
Can I appeal if I do not qualify?

Yes. Students who do not qualify can submit an appeal with adequate supporting documentation. However, a successful appeal does not guarantee placement.

How do I submit an appeal?

Appeals must be submitted via the Residence Portal.

How long will it take to get feedback on my appeal?

Appeal statuses can be checked on the Residence Portal. Feedback will be sent via email and is dependent on the committee's availability and space availability.

Who can I contact about my appeal?
General Questions
When will I know if I've been placed in residence?

Placement notifications are sent via email to your registered UWC student email address.

If I get placed, can I request to move to another residence?

Yes, but this depends on space availability and Residence Services policy. Requests must be submitted on the Residence Portal.

What happens if I miss the application deadline?

Unfortunately, you will have to wait for the next application cycle. No late submissions are accepted.

Can postgraduate students apply for residence?

Yes, postgraduate students are eligible to apply and are prioritised for certain postgraduate residences.

Do I need to reapply each year?

Yes, all students must apply annually for residence placement.

IMPORTANT — Annual Application: Residence placement is not automatic. A new application must be submitted every year, and late applications after 31 October are not considered. Eligible students may also use NSFAS to help cover residence fees.
