Who Should Apply as an Undergraduate?

You must apply as an undergraduate applicant if you fall into one of these categories.

Current Grade 12 Requirements

For learners completing Grade 12 in the current academic year.

  • POPIA Consent Form must be submitted by applicants under 18.
  • No other documents are required at this stage.
  • Admission will be based on final Grade 12 results, released in January 2027.

Post-Matric Requirements

For applicants who have already completed Grade 12 or are improving results.

  • Certified copy of National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate. Note: Statement of Results will not be accepted. Applicants must submit the official NSC or Senior Certificate.
  • Certified copy of ID document.
  • Affidavit explaining current post-matric activity, for example gap year or employment.
  • If applicable, proof of upgraded or current NSC results.

External Transfer Requirements

For applicants transferring to UWC from another institution.

  • Certified copy of National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate. Note: Statement of Results will not be accepted. Applicants must submit the official NSC or Senior Certificate.
  • Certified copy of ID document.
  • Official academic transcript, certified.
  • Certificate of good conduct.
  • Module descriptors, where required.
  • Degree certificate, if applicable, certified.

Important Note: Credit transfer is not guaranteed and is subject to departmental approval.

Internal Transfer Requirements

For current UWC students applying for admission to another programme.

  • Applicants must apply online during the official application period.
  • A letter of motivation explaining the reason for the programme change may be required.
  • Applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements for the new programme.
  • Selection is subject to academic performance and space availability within the faculty or department.
  • Approval of a transfer is not guaranteed and is subject to faculty approval.

Re-admission Requirements

For students returning to UWC after a break of one year or more.

  • Students who discontinued their studies for one academic year or more must apply for readmission.
  • A new online application must be submitted for the relevant academic year.
  • Students may be required to submit a letter explaining the reason for the interruption of studies.
  • Admission is subject to faculty rules, academic standing, and space availability.
  • Additional supporting documents may be requested by the faculty or department.
  • Re-admission is not guaranteed and is subject to faculty approval.

Undergraduate Application FAQ

When can I apply?

Applications for 2027 are open and will close on 30 September 2026. Dentistry and Oral Health applications close on 31 August 2026.

How do I apply?

Applicants are encouraged to apply online via the UWC online application portal: student.uwc.ac.za.

Can I change my programme choice?

Yes. Applicants may request a programme choice change before the closing date by using the programme change request form. Do not submit a new application.

How many programme choices may I apply for?

You may apply for a maximum of two programme choices.

When and how will I receive my application outcome?
  • All applicants will receive an acknowledgement email after submitting the online application form.
  • Grade 12 applicants: final selection happens after final results are released.
  • Other applicants: your application must be complete, with all required documents, to be considered.
Do I need to apply again if I applied in a previous year and was not accepted?

Yes. Applicants must submit a new application for each academic year.

How do I apply for a NSFAS bursary?

You may apply directly to NSFAS by completing their online application: www.nsfas.org.za.
