Online Researcher Visibility

Online profiles provide researchers with interactive platforms that lists all their publications in one place. This makes it easy for others to easily identify and interact an authors' work. Online profiles may be administered by individuals as well as being generated automatically publishers. Profiles such as LinkedIn, Google Scholar, Research Gate and ORCiD allow researchers to craft and customise profiles and add their publications as well as professional details. Different journals and databases display author names in different formats which include variations of first names, initials and family names. Profiles allow authors to identify themselves uniquely through disambiguation by applying author and research IDs that include all variations of their names. Author profiles are also generated automatically by databases such as Web of Science and SCOPUS (illustrated below). The use of ORCiD accounts (Open Research and Contributor ID) is encouraged as these IDs can be used with any publication.
