The Thuthuka Bursary Programme

The Thuthuka programme is a transformative initiative introduced by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), which is geared towards motivating and supporting disadvantaged university learners in pursuing a career as a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA).

The aim of the Thuthuka Bursary Programme is to increase the number of Coloured and African individuals within the professional accounting field and assist accounting students in becoming qualified Chartered Accountants. The Thuthuka bursary programme supports students throughout their academic journey and assists with students in the attainment of both their undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications.

The Thuthuka Bursary Programme provides financial support in terms of the following:
  • Full tuition fee cost
  • Accommodation at a University residence
  • Textbooks
  • Meals
  • Living allowance for necessities
In addition to the financial support, Thuthuka bursary recipients also receive non-financial ‘wrap-around’ support in the form, of among others:
  • Various academic enrichment programmes such as additional tutorials, study skills workshops and more
  • Social and emotional support
  • Work-readiness and life skills training
  • Mentoring and Counselling
