Department of Educational Psychology
Overview

The field of Educational Psychology is concerned with the psychology of teaching and learning.

Students completing a programme in this department would gain the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to support the education of learners with a diverse range of needs, within an understanding of local contexts.

As part of the Faculty of Education, the department of Educational Psychology provides training in the psychological foundations of education, research methods as well as the science and practices of psychological interventions and educational support services to schools and learners. The content offered in the programmes are underpinned by the Department of Basic Education’s Care and Support for Teaching and Learning (CSTL) framework, recognising the wide range of contextual issues affecting the learning and well-being of learners and teachers. The training offered promotes a comprehensive, coordinated multi-sectoral response to addressing the barriers to teaching and learning for learners and educators. The goal is to support the education rights of all children through schools becoming inclusive centres of learning, care and support.
