The Annual Kader Asmal Intervarsity Moot Competition, 10 August 2024
The Kader Asmal Intervarsity Moot Competition is one of the moot competitions that is hosted by the UWC Law Faculty and Moot Society, annually. This year marks the 10 th anniversary of the competition. The moot competition was named in honour of the late Professor Kader Asmal in recognition of his prolific work in the area of human rights as a scholar and activist, both nationally and internationally. When South Africa became a constitutional democracy in 1994, Professor Asmal was elected to the National Assembly, and from then on, he served as a minister in various portfolios. Professor Asmal was also a professor of human rights law at the faculty of law, University of the Western Cape. Since its inception, the Kader Asmal intervarsity moot competition has focused on legal issues pertaining to the protection of fundamental human rights and has attracted participating law students across South Africa. Moot court competitions, such as the Kader Asmal Moot, are an important co-curricular activity that UWC law students consistently participate in, every year. This is in line with the University’s strategic objective of providing law students with learning opportunities and experiences outside of the classroom.HYPOTHETICAL FACTS - KADER ASMAL MOOT 2024
