Institute for Post-School Studies Projects
The IPSS is undertaking several high profile and funded research projects that are intended to build each of the sectors in post-schooling.
Recent large research projects include a DHET five-year TVET Research Programme which has 11 partner institutions, with the IPSS as lead partner; the Carnegie funded African Scholarship Programme; and the DHET-EU funded college lecturer qualifications development project which is supporting research in both TVET and Adult Education. IPSS is currently involved in projects for Adult and Community Education and Training (ACET) Lecturers that use Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for skills programmes.
In recognition of its work in TVET, the IPSS hosts the first NRF SARChI Chair in TVET Studies, which its Director Prof. Joy Papier currently holds. The SARCHI Chair in TVET Studies has been renewed for a second five year cycle.
Another first is the establishment in 2017 of a new academic Journal of Vocational, Adult and Continuing Education and Training (JOVACET) which promises to be a leading publication in SA and on the African Continent. JOVACET has recently achieved international accreditation and is registered with the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and SCOPUS in addition to DHET accreditation.
